BILLIONAIRE BOUNCE BACK
Surely I cannot be the only person who would drop everything, just to make a living from ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’. I always say being a Dash Doll (our official fandom name) is a full time job, or at least should be generating many of us some form of income. Between the booming business ventures, the adorable babies, relationship scandals and overall controversial nature of our faves – ‘Keeping Up’ can be a rather daunting practice. One specific member of the Klan we haven’t covered in a while is 21-year-old beauty mogul and new mommy, Kylie Jenner. While I’ve heard a lot of new mothers complain about struggling to get back into the swing of things after having their little ones, it seems like there is no slowing down when you are Kylie Jenner. Undeniably, Kylie’s “Billionaire” status places her in a far more privileged position than most new moms. Following a 9-month hiatus, the new mommy and youngest of the Kardashian empire has had quite a triumphant year since giving birth to her and rapper, Travis Scott’s first daughter, now 8-month-old Stormi Webster.
BELOW WE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT KYLIE’S BOUNCE BACK
KYLIE COSMETICS – THE WEATHER COLLECTION
Less than a month after Stormi’s arrival, Jenner took to Instagram stories to unveil a new Weather-themed collection, inspired by her daughter. “I worked on this pretty much my entire pregnancy,” Jenner said in an Instagram video. “Right after we chose Stormi’s name, her name really inspired me. I spent a lot of time on this collection and put a lot of detail into it.”
KYLIE COSMETICS COLLABS (KOURT/JORDYN/MOMAGER)
One of Kylie Cosmetics’ strategies is collaboration. Sisters Khloe and Kim Kardashian have both enjoyed successful collaborative collections with their youngest sister. 2018 presented an opportunity for Kylie to open up her brand to even more members of the family. To coincide with eldest Kardashian sister’s birthday in April, Kylie announced to her Instagram followers, “So excited to announce the Kourt x Kylie collaboration. This collection gives me so much lifeeeee”. Family matriarch Kris Jenner celebrated Mother’s Day by “hacking” the Kylie Cosmetics Instagram page, a stunt to announce the Momager Collection in her honour. Last month marked yet another collaboration for Kylie’s brand, one celebrating her long time BFF’s 21st Birthday, Jordyn Woods. “Jordyn and I have had a true unmatchable relationship and I consider her family. She’s helped me remain ME throughout all these years and this is the first time we have collaborated on such a project! It has been so much fun and I’ll cherish the memories forever,” the millennial queen told fans.
KYLIE POP UP – SAN FRANCISCO
The wildly popular beauty mogul opened her first pop-up store in New York in 2016 and ever since she has opened temporary shops in the US, including one in collaboration with retail giant, Topshop. In May this year, Jenner took her pop-up boutique to San Francisco, much to the delight of the crowds that had gathered in hopes of catching a glimpse of the 21-year-old. The pop-up shop attracted so many of Kylie’s fans, some having lined up two days prior, almost resulting in a mini-crisis for the star. According to multiple reports, police closed off the entire block surrounding the store’s location in San Fran because there were so many people, delaying Kylie’s appearance. “I came there a day early and set the store up myself so it would be PERFECT for you guys,” she tweeted. “I want to make it clear I don’t get to choose what time I go. I would be there an hour before it opens if it were up to me. But it’s up to the police who shut down the street at a certain time and let me know when they believe I should come because I feel strongly about being there to see everyone’s faces. Just gets to me when I see comments like I made everyone wait and I showed up hours late. When that’s just not the truth of the situation.”
KYLIE – SUMMER COLLECTION
Friday, July 13th marked the launch of Kylie’s Summer Collection 2018. Through the collection, the brand introduced more matte bullet lipsticks to the line. Soon after its release, the buzzworthy summer makeup collection flew off the shelves and promptly sold out.
COVER GIRL – FORBES
In what I deem the biggest milestone in Kylie’s 21 years of existence, next to giving birth to her precious daughter, Forbes valued Kylie Cosmetics at nearly $800 million. Additionally, the reality TV star turned mogul’s revenue, including earnings from TV programs and endorsing products like Puma shoes and PacSun clothing, and $60 million in estimated after-tax dividends she’s taken from her company, brought her net worth to a whopping $900 million, at the time of valuation. Because Kylie owns 100% of the company, Forbes named her the youngest person (at just 20 at the time) on the fourth annual ranking of America’s Richest Self-Made Women, earning her the coveted cover. Forbes also reported that Jenner was not just making history as a woman. Another year of growth is set to make her the youngest self-made billionaire ever, male or female, trumping Mark Zuckerberg, who became a billionaire at age 23 and Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel also became a billionaire in his early 20s. As expected, Kylie’s achievement was met with an insurmountable amount of outrage. Many felt that Jenner did not deserve the “self-made” tag, because her background placed her in a place of privilege. I’ve yet to see any person reach that level of success with no “help”, including the people most deemed more deserving.
COVER GIRL – GQ
Detailing a dreamy teenage love story, Jenner opened up in a GQ exclusive about the early days of her relationship with her rapper beau, Travis Scott, “I really jumped on the bus. And then we rode off into the sunset”. After meeting and hanging out at Coachella and hitting it off, the rapper had to go on tour, so Jenner went with him. “I did the whole tour with him,” she says. “I live on my own, and so I just rode off into the sunset. We had a lot of downtime. It was organic. And we would just go to these random cities. We got to not be who we really were.”
KYLIE – BIRTHDAY COLLECTION
Jenner usually marks every major holiday with limited edition makeup launches, including Valentine’s Day and Christmas with limited editions. Of course she was going to go all out for her 21st Birthday. “I can’t believe I’m about to turn 21,” Jenner said as she revealed the boozy birthday themed goodies. “It’s definitely the most personal collection that I’ve done. I hope you guys love it. My birthday collections are super special to me, because the first collection I ever did was for my 19th birthday, so this is going to be my third annual birthday collection. My birthdays are kind of what set off collections for me.”
COVER GIRL – VOGUE
If we ever needed more evidence that 2018 belonged to Kylie, the Billionaire-in-the-making scored her very first Vogue cover. “Vogue was once just a wild dream. Thank you @vogueaustralia for this cover,” she excitedly shared her September Issue with fans.
COVER GIRL – GLAMOUR
Kylie made yet another power move, this time as GLAMOUR UK’s Autumn/Winter 2018 cover star! “Most importantly, the business has given me a purpose,” she told the magazine. “I love to work, as Mom has installed such a great work ethic in all of us. If I didn’t have that, I don’t know what I would do. I get to create, it exercises my mind and I am always thinking of how to make the formulas or develop new products.”
KYLIE X ADIDAS
This year also saw the social media star announced as the latest brand ambassador of sports apparel giant Adidas, joining brother-in-law Kanye West and sister Kendall Jenner. Kylie’s latest endorsement deal came as a huge surprise considering it comes just two years after signing with competitor Puma for an alleged seven-figure sum. “I’ve always loved Adidas and it’s exciting now being part of the Originals family, especially for Falcon,” Kylie stated in the press release.
KYLIE COSMETICS – HALLOWEEN COLLECTION
This month, Stormi’s mom took to Instagram to announce yet another release for her game-changing makeup line. Kylie Cosmetics’ spooky-themed collection was launched in celebration of Halloween, and boasts 3D packaging, with every order coming with a pair of 3D glasses. Considering how big Halloween is in the States, I can see why Kylie went all out for the design, featuring ghosts, ghouls, vampires and everything creepy thing you can imagine. I have no doubt that this will sell like hot cakes.
If you think that is all from Instagram’s highest paid celebrity influencer, then you’d better think again! Kylie has a rumoured second collaboration with sister Kim Kardashian West. If you’ve been following the trend in Kylie’s collaborations, then you’re right in assuming that it is most likely scheduled to coincide with Kim’s birthday, which is on October 21st. It’s pretty clear that Kylie is hell-bent on not letting us breathe and making even further moves to conquer the beauty industry. Jenner recently filed a trademark for Kylie Skin by Kylie Jenner and Kylie Skin. That means Kylie Jenner cleansers, scrubs, serums, masks, and moisturizes could be coming sooner than we think. And that folks, is how Billionaires bounce back! Must be so nice…
